VARNA
Location and transport accessibility:
The city of Varna is situated at the Bay of Varna, 470
km east of Sofia. Varna is the biggest city at the
Bulgarian Black Sea coast.
The fastest way to get to Varna is by airplane. It takes
50 min from Sofia to Varna. Varna’s Airport functions
throughout the whole year.
The Varna’s Railway station is located in the southern
part of the town. Varna is connected to all the main
railways in the country. There are express trains to
Sofia and Plovdiv that reach for 7 and 4:30 hours
respectively. Seats are limited so it is advisable to
book sleeping car tickets a week before.
There are daily bus lines from bus station Varna to
Sofia and Plovdiv. From the private bus station situated
in front of the bigger one depart minibuses to Sunny
beach, Nessebar and Bourgas. Buses to Albena and Kranevo
depart from “Makedonski dom”.

The Golden sands resort is situated in the north part of
the Bulgarian Black sea cost on 17km from Varna.
Established in 1957, it is an essential extension of the
“Golden sands” natural park.
The mineral waters, the warm sea and the wonderful beach
as well as the marvelous deciduous wood turn the resort
into one of the pearls of the Bulgarian coast.
Its beach strip is 3,5 km long and 100 m wide at some
places and is covered with fine golden sand. The
constant temperature of 27oC and microclimate of Golden
Sands throughout the season, making it a wonderful place
for having a rest and fun.
The Chaika resort is situated 15km north of Varna. It’s
between the Golden sands and St. Êonstantin and Helena
resorts.
The St Konstantin and Helena resort is situated only 8km
northeast of Varna. The resort is famous from ancient
times, due to its unique combination of mountain air,
mineral springs and sea.
Its construction began in 1897 in the vicinity of
St.St.Constantine and Elena monastery.
Sunny day is a peaceful green oasis in a sheltered quiet
bay with a lovely natural park, clean sea, fine beach
about 1 km long, covered with golden quartz sand and
mineral springs. The beautiful nature and modern
balneological centers make it an excellent place for
relaxation, vacation and treatment.
The Chernomorets complex is situated near the Galata
quarter in the picturesque place Fitchoza. It disposes
of several bungalows and a wild beach.
Kamchia with its unique nature is situated 25km of Varna
and has a rare combination of dense forest, river and
sea.
Asparouhovo is a small picturesque village situated at
the foot of the Stara Planina Mountain, in the gorge of
Luda Kamchia River, on the side of Tsonevo Dam. It’s
situated 85km southwest of Varna.
Archeological facts say that the village exists since
8th – 9th centuries. Till the beginning of the 20th
century it’s called Ovchaga – like the name of the
fortress of the rural leader Ivailo. Later the village
is moved, but part of the houses became ethnographical –
architectural complex and that is one of the reasons
that the village Asparuhovo is preserved our folklore
heritage.
The village had moved for last time in 1970es, overrun
by the waters of the large dam lake of Tsonevo. At the
bottom, under the water remained the old houses and
customs, but the memory of past times is still alive
there is a small ethnographical museum, at the shore of
the lake, not far away from the church “St. Paraskeva”.
During the summer, in the museum a bagpipe cries out
before the eyes of foreign tourists and anyone can try
one of the old crafts pottery making, weaving of rugs,
straw-mats etc. under the guidance of local masters.
BIALA
Location and transport accessibility:
Situated 59km south of Varna and 79km north of Bourgas,
Biala is a sea resort. Their natural resources aid the
development of the town like a center of sea tourism.
The large beach with a broad – leaved forests, pure
water and weather permitting are the reasons of its
growth. Here is produced the marvelous wine “Dimiat”.
There is regular minibus line Varna – Bourgas.
The resort zone Shkorpilovtsi is situated 35 – 40km
south of Varna city. There is a vast and fine golden
beach, long 8km and wide 100-120m.
