LOVECH
Location and transport accessibility:

The municipality of Lovech occupies 946 sq. m. of land in the north-eastern part of Lovech county. It covers 22.89 % of the territory of the county and it is at the first place for its size compared to the other seven municipalities. There are 35 towns and villages - 34 villages and 1 town. In administrative respect, it is bounded to the north by Pleven and Pordim municipality, to the north-east by Letnik, to the east by Sevlievo, to the west by Troyan municipality, and to the west by Ugarchina municipality.

Lovech is one of the oldest and most interesting cities in Bulgaria. One could reach the city with regular bus lines from Sofia and Pleven or with passenger’s railway line Levski – Lovech – Troyan.

TROYAN
Location and transport accessibility:

The town of Troyan is located at a distance of 60 km to the east of Teteven, at a distance of 180 km to the north - east of Sofia and at a distance of 70 km south of Pleven. Settled on the splendid terraces along the river Beli Osum, Troyan is a town with opulent history. The ancient Roman Road of Via Trajana linking the Danube River with the Aegean Sea crossed the Balkan range and gave its name to the settlement which grew up much later.

There are regular bus and railway links with Sofia, Pleven, Lovech, Veliko Turnovo, Gabrovo and Plovdiv. The links with the smaller settlements are also so good. There is a private bus line to Sofia. The bus station is located in the eastern part of the town(21,”Dimitar Ikonomov”str.,+359 670/22172, 24207), not far from the railway station. The railway station is the last along the Levski-Lovech-Troyan line.

The picturesque village of Gorno trape is located 10km far away from Troyan, at 450m above the sea level

Oreshak (7km from Troyan) is another typical Bulgarian village with its old houses, magnificent nature and one of the biggest Bulgarian monasteries – “Uspenie bogorodichno” (The assumption).
The village of Chiflik is located at the upper stream of the Beli Iskar River in the southwestern part of the territory of the town of Troyan. The village is located 15 km southwest of the town of Troyan and is connected to it through a regular bus line.

The village of Chiflik is a unique resort complex. The combination of the beautiful nature and rich architectural fantasy of the village competes only with the best and most exquisite European resorts. The landscape of the region is exceptionally picturesque, of alpine character. Here are located the natural relief and biosphere landmarks part of National Park “Central Balkan”: “Kozia stena” and the famous edelweiss growing only in this part of the Stara Planina mountain range, the Kashka and Markova meadow hollows, the rocky phenomena “Ushite” (The Ears), “Sadranata stena”, “Rogachevi kamani” (rocks), the erosion valleys of the Kamacharskata Reka River, etc. By visiting all these you will learn the wonderful legends about the “Elenova” (Rogacheva) Reka River and the magnificent flower edelweiss.

The valley of the Beli Osam River, which includes the valleys of its adjoining tributaries – the Rogacheva, Koziashtnitsa, Gabrovshtitsa rivers etc., has plunged into verdancy – not an acre of waste land – the whole area is covered with beech-tree, coniferous, yoke-elm tree and hazelbush woods and the ridges and elevations of the Troyanska Mountain are overgrown with fresh green grass. The strawberries, plums and potatoes are the most popular agricultural products grown in the village of Chiflik.

The forests around the village are infested with different kinds of game – deer, foes, wild boars, birds, etc. The inhabitants of the village of Chiflik breed goats and sheep mostly.
The village of Shipkovo is situated on the northern slopes of Central Stara planina mountain, in the folds of the pre-Balkan, on the eastern slopes of the Vassiliovska planina mountain, just 20 km west of the town of Troyan and approximately 47 km southeast of the town of Teteven. The village is located in the valley of the Rajdavets River – a left tributary of the Beli Osam river, within the boundaries of National Park “Central Balkan”.

The village of Shipkovo received its name from the first settlers because as the legends claim it was completely surrounded by dog roses. Today’s village of Shipkovo exists since 1630. It is located at 680 m above sea level and the “Shipkovski mineral baths” resort is at 700 m above sea level and spreads over an area of 45000 decares.

The village of Shipkovo enjoys a moderate continental climate – cool summer and mild winter. The average annual temperature for the region is 10 C.

The freshness and ecologically clean nature, the unique combination of century-old beech-tree woods and different kinds of coniferous trees, the crystal-clear mountain brooks, the marvelous and mystical rocky formations and caves and healing mineral springs transform the village of Shipkovo into a majestic and unique, exceptionally preferred and often visited place.

APRILCI
Location and transport accessibility:

Apriltsi is a small town, settled at the foot of the Middle Stara planina mountain. Its population is about 4 700 inhabitants. It is located at the distance of 205 km. to the south of Sofia, at the distance of 57 km. to the west of Gabrovo and at the distance of about 25 km. to the south east of Troyan. The town is young at age, small at inhabitants, but with rich history and incredible with its nature and with its landmarks. The most charming thing in Apriltsi is nature. The combination of the hospitality of the local people, of the coziness of the hotels and the rest-houses, and of the beauty of the mountain nature leave incredible memories to the town’s guests. Here is the kingdom of the rocks. Inaccessible and steep rocks rise from all sides of the mountain.
Apriltsi offers something for everyone. To keen mountaineers – the challenges of the peaks Botev, Maragidik, Triglav; to risk-lovers – the Northern Djendem and the highest waterfall in Bulgaria Raisko praskalo; to anglers and mushroom-gatherers – a full basket, any time, near the Vidimska and Ostreshka rivers and in the damp mixed forests; to hunters-precious trophies, to contemplators – breathtaking and diverse mountain sights in all directions, plus the only bed of Alpine rose in Stara planina.

TETEVEN
Location and transport accessibility:

The town of Teteven (12 762 inhabitants, 410m above sea level) is situated in the region of Stara planina. It is 118km from Sofia, 74 km from Lovech and 60km from Troyan.

Teteven has regular bus connection with Sofia, Vratsa , Pleven, Lovech and Veliko Tarnovo, as well as with almost all the settlements within the region.

The village of Glojene is situated northwest from the town of Teteven, at the foot of the mountain peak of Kamen Lisets, along the Cherni Vit River.

One of the legends tells that in 13 th century the Kiev prince Gloj arrived in Bulgaria running away from the tatars. He received from Ivan Assen the Second an estate, situated at the foot of Stara planina Mountain, by the Cherni Vit River.

The site where he settled with his detachment was named after him.

The village of Ribaritsa has about 1 400 inhabitants and is the most picturesque village among the whole 13 in the Teteven region (12km from Teteven town). The village is located at 600 meters above the sea level at the foot of the Teteven Balkan. It is no accident that the name of the village is Ribaritsa - it is settled 12 km. to the Beli Vit river banks and its feeders, and there is a monument of the “River boy” at the beginning of the village – the symbol of the village.
The charm of the Ribaritsa village are the numerous little country houses and villas. They are lost in greenness and flowers, offering not only tranquillity and calmness, but and the opportunity to feel the unique authentic atmosphere and coziness of the Bulgarian village. Here in Ribaritsa the traditions are still alive. Old water - mills are still working, the fulling - mills are still washing the colorful carpets, the famous Ribaritsa rakia (brandy) is prepared right before you in a copper, housewives prepare the unforgettably sweet jams of wild berries and the old farmers are still making the well-known Balkan brine cheese prepared both from sheep and goat milk. You will wander how beauty one can find in the thing made from wool and wood - all these made by the light-handed craftsmen.

The biggest attraction in the village of Ribaritsa is the wild nature of the National Park Central Balkan and one of its nine green pearls – the biosphere reserve of Tsarichina. There is a legend about the name of the reserve, according to which the king’s daughter Tamara was cured by the magic of the “red harefoot”, which the local people still called “tsarichina”.

The village of Lesidren is settled in the north slopes of the Vasiliovska mountain, which is part of the Middle Stara planina mountain. The village is located to the northeast of Teteven and to the northwest of Shipkovo mineral baths. The nearest towns are Lovech, Troyan and Ugarchin. Here is the most beautiful nature in the region. The peaks of Vasiliov (1495 m.), Stargon (1425 m.) and Koinets (1155 m.) stick surrounded by the magnificent forests. Settled at 420 meters above the sea level, in the beautiful Balkan gorge, the land belonging to the Lesidren has different rock structure: red sand and black rock coals. The magnificent nature, the fresh air and the modern rest houses can make the visitor’s recreation of full value. The carst relief is suitable for mountaineering. The winter here is mild and the summer is breezy. At the distance of 4 km. is located the “Sopot” dam.
